Now, I know there are some unstable folks out there and this guy obviously has some issues. Here's the lede for the story:An out-of-work truck driver accused of opening fire at a Unitarian church, killing two people, left behind a note suggesting that he targeted the congregation out of hatred for its liberal policies, including its acceptance of gays, authorities said Monday.HOWEVER, his rage found a focus and a target in the views espoused by Bill O'Reilly, Michael Savage, and Sean Hannity. In a letter found in a subsequent police search, the shooter said: Police investigators reported: Propaganda at it's finest. And Bill, Mike, & Sean will all be publically doing everything they can to deny the responsibility they hold for the violence laced, extreme language they constantly use. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if they found the whole thing a huge ego trip. All the while speaking out of the other sides of their mouths, still touting their 'fair & balanced' schtick and exhorting folks to ignore everyone but them. Hypocrites of the highest magnitude.
Gypsy You have gone over the edge. You are a freakin whacko gone crazy over the edge. Like Hannity and the others encited this ? Like they have ANY responsibility AT ALL in this freakin nutcase with a gun??? What next out of your sick freakin mind, blame the guns ????? I have often laughed at your attempts at debate, and even taken a few of your thoughts seriously. This just blows every bit of credibility you had right out of the water. Koo Kooo....( insert video of black helicopters and Twilight Zone theme here ). Take your freakin Xanax or whatever it is that keeps you medicated and get back to the hospital, I am sure they are looking for you about now, LOL LOL, Peter, check the IP addy, I'll put money on San Fran or Seattle !!!! ROFLMAO If this was an attempt to stir up debate, wow, yer a goner there Pat, a goner.
Had to check.....Yep, I have all three of those books. Watch out folks, I may go whacko !!!!!!! LOL ROFLMAO LOL OMG this is funny
This is a very sad day for those who lost loved ones and those who were wounded, but it says this creep hated anyone who was different but I saw no mention of him been influenced by those you named Gypsy. I deplore anyone who preches violence towards others and to be honest know nothing of the people you name, this guy though seems to have had his hatred for quite some time. Jack calm down and remember the blood preassure
Gypsy's post reminds me of a Michael Moore mockumentry- she doesn't believe it herself but just wants to see the reaction she'll stir.
ANYTIME something like this happens it is indeed a sad day. Truly it is a great tragedy. Words ARE very powerful. This is NOT the first time something like this has happened and a book or books been tied to it unfortunately. My favorite writer has expienced this. Anyone heard of Stephen King? Has anyone heard of a book called Rage? It was tied to Columbine High School because a copy of it was found in the kid's locker. Here's what King had to say about it in 1999. http://www.horrorking.com/interview7.html Is the guy whacked out? Without a doubt and a coward at that. He hoped the police would kill him after his carnage. Unfortunately the three mentioned books were found and this man's views seem to have been known. Are they "guilty"? Should they be banned? Of course not - freedom of the press is all too important. I can only hope that because their names have come up, either rightfully or wrongfully, how O'Reilly, Hannity and Savage address the issue will say a lot about their character. It's not a situation I would like to be thrust into whether or not I like these guys.
Well one thing for sure, just because Gypsy says so, we cannot believe those books were found, this is what happens when you make stuff up and intentionally post false info. I am sure it will turn up with some looking, but only from credible sources......say like a police report? Who gives a rats ass if those books were found anyways, they can be found on my bookshelf also. I have never killed anyone. Are we going to blame the books instead of the guns this time, or , are we going to blame the wacked out nutcase who pulled the trigger?
LOL Yeah, lets blame Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell for inciting obesity, or should we blame silverware instead ??
Hmmm, personal responsibility. Now there's an interesting concept. You mean personal responsibility like the shooter had? The one blaming 'liberals and gays' as the reason his sorry ass couldn't find a job? The one that couldn't even pull the trigger to kill himself, but had to blow away other folks so the cops would do the deed for him? If you read the second article, you'd know he left the doors to his house open so they wouldn't have a problem getting in. Oh, and Level Headed, if you had read the second article, you'd know that it was a police report that listed the books. Just like I said it was. So, if Mr. Personal Responsibility didn't get his talking points from the loudmouth brigade, I'd sure like to hear the explanation of his choice of target and stated reasons for killing two people and wounding six others - in front of a bunch of kids, no less. My conclusion, from your helpful posts, is that I've learned that the loudmouth brigade is not responsible for what they say & their words carry no weight or influence. Thanks for clearing that up!
In the end it doesnt matter what inspired him...people can write what they want...its that pesky thing called freedom of speech. To blame something an obviously unstable person read to inspire him to commit a crime is displacing the blame from the guilty person. A person might have read something from Al Franken and walked into a young republicans meeting shooting but it wouldnt be Frankens fault. So in the end the point is moot.
By personal responsibility I mean that the shooting is the shooters fault, is that so hard to comprehend? So a couple of books were found in his house..were they the only things he possessed? Maybe a dog or coffee pot was telling him what to do? Maybe it was the food he ate...maybe the video games he played? All of these have been blamed for murders in the past. I listen to Bill O & Sean as often as I can and I can honestly say that I have never heard any anti-gay comments from either one of them. Dwight..err, I mean Gypsy...the lack of empahsis that the left places on personal responsibility will be their downfall- hopefully just the downfall of the movement and not of the entire country. Every aspect of life will improve if we each adopt the concept of personal responsibility.
please...to say that displacing blame regarding personal actions and not taking responsibility for ones actions is a thing that the 'left' does is absurd. I cant count how many times have I seen one of the 'right' or conservative types talking heads blaming rap music, violent video games, or blaming pornography for the wrongs of modern youth and society in general or blaming someone's actions on what they listened to, read, watched or played...brow beating some rapper or sports star because they aren't setting a good example or glorifying violence, hatred, drugs, etc... I have personally watched O'reilly brow beating a rapper for his lyrics. displacing blame onto him for the actions of those who take his lyrics to heart and act on them...instead of blaming the youth of America and their parents. Just like with this instance, they are displacing on the artist, writer, game developer, etc...taking the blame away from the person who is doing what they do or maybe the parent. In the end...both sides do it, they just point their fingers at different things. It will be a black day if liberals disappear...on the whole I don't like them but then again I don't like raging conservatives either...or any extremists of either type. With hope enough of each extreme will continue to cancel each other out and the middle of the road who are far less black and white will win out in the end.
Drusus, As a Liberal do you know how much your comments offend me? Well, I'll tell you. NOT IN THE LEAST. Why not? Seems to me you've jumped in and just told it like it is. This DOES happen from all sides. Sick people are sick people and do follow what they may interpret from reading or listening. Still the bottom line is that a sick mind is a sick mind. Actually it seems to have taken me about 45 years to become a Liberal. I have voted Repulican more than Democrat if you get down to it. I have voted Independent as well. Like so many others I am tired of what this country has become. Both McCain and Obama have glaring weak points. Both are politicians as well. It comes down to taking a chance in the long run. Does one just go along and keep the machine rolling when it needs repair or does one have the guts to take a chance? Liberals are shot down for even attempting to think outside the box. Well, I'll take my hits for thinking. To me it's a lot better than a knee-jerk, built in defense mechanism. This would be "typical Liberal thinking". Those that spout it the most should consider peeking outside the blinders for a while to make an attempt (no matter how feeble) to see what millions of other Americans are thinking. Fear, name calling and blanket statements reveal a lot about a person in a heartbeat. I fear things, I'll sling out a name and am probably guilty of making blanket statements as well. However, I don't thrive on it.
Holy Cow, July 30th 08' ( mark the date ) I agree with Drusus politically, LOL David, dont take the bait. This is designed to get you off the Obama subject. The attempts by the lefties to change the focus from Obamas Eurotrip Bash America tour ( ala Dixie Chicks ), Obamas ties to Rezko ( who, when granted immunity will spill the Obama beans on the bribes and kickbacks ), Obamas failure to visit our wounded troops, and the hocus pocus smoke and mirror " tax cuts for the middle class " when he is in reality promising to raise them, have worked. You have stopped your Obama threads.....get back to work and ignore this silly mentally diseased Liberal
Interesting that you say that as my father was a republican (or just very conservative) and as he got older he became much more liberal...more middle of the road liberal but I never thought I would see the day that he might vote democrat. When I was young he was far more conservative. Now on some topics an ultra conservative might label him 'bleeding heart' or 'lefty' in the way political creatures like to use blanket labels and hyperbole. I have also voted Democrat, Republican and Indy as I tend to vote for a person I think might be the better fit for me and not the party they are in...I honestly am up in the air for this election (most elections left face it)...more and more I think 'why bother'...I dont like to take that attitude but I find the choices forced upon me are severely lacking and living in Texas...more often than not...my vote gets eliminated at the state level anyway because of the way our electoral system works.
Not at all David. Exactly where in these posts did I actually say this WAS caused by "influences". Seems to me I defended their freedom of speech. As usual David blows over what is said and lowers the boom! DUDE you are a legend in your own mind! Now for your big tool David. Bold font but I'll take it a step further. BIGGER BOLD FONT IN RED! For ease of reading my original comments are in this present font. David's responses appear like this My responses to his responses appear like this. As for what you agreed upon I won't waste much time. Guess I'm paranoid but I can only envision you digging it up to "use" against me.
Well, now isn't this interesting. I actually agreed with y'all that the shooter was responsible for his actions and that what he had read/heard on talk radio didn't influence his actions. And that makes me, according to Level Headed, a: Interesting, um, logic. See, this is what really amuses me about NeoCons when they're all riled up (and boy is that a low threshhold), is that they don't pay any attention to the actual conversation. They grab on to a phrase and then start building a whole story around in their heads. It doesn't have to make sense. It just has to attack whatever the perceived 'other' is. Anyway, back to the topic at hand, since we agree that the loudmouth brigade is non-influential and non-weightbearing in the case of the shooter, does anyone have any explanation as to why the crazed conservative was targeting a liberal church screaming epithets about it being their fault for his crappy life? Suggestions? Theories?
