One word of warning here if this thread starts down the slippery slopes of name calling I will close it & I will not look kindly on whomever starts it off.

I can assure you I am indeed kidding...and a bit bitter right now as this poll came about as a result of a member here stating I deserve to die for for being in such a relationship.

Its good to see most people here do not agree with such sentiments.

    phew!!!!
Thanks, I was really getting kind of worried that I had to opt-out of this forum.

The problem is that the way that the poll is worded is seems kind of forced.

    Do You Support Interracial Marriage
    Yes
    No

It sounds as though either way is wrong.
If I support them, then it seems that I am willing to force the issue.
If opposed -- then I would out-law the issue.

    Either way is NG.

    Perhaps we can ask:

Are you in favor of letting human beings alone to decide for themselves what is best for them:
    Yes
    No

The reason it's worded in this manner is because OldDan (on the thread in question) was not being allowed to walk the middle of the road and refer to himself as a KINDA depends on the situation fellow. He was being cyber forced to make a choice. Granted he could have used more soft spoken language in his initial views but I suspect he's not that type of fellow and I defer back to the Freedom of Speech we enjoy. I worded it so there would be no grey area in an anonymous poll. Looks like a split decision so far with me abstaining from the vote...

The term used is a local Texas colloquial term for an act of usurping or underhandedness. Steve, If you'll notice I initially posted *asterisks where the 2nd word was as well.

Can we clarify the question please! Are you asking this question about normal Americans or people within borders of the state of Texas? I think the answers would swing wildly within the borders of Texas towards the negative while outside of Texas opinions would likely swing back in the other direction. Let's face it, Texas isn't a bastion of tolerance when it comes to race issues.

Also, I continually hear pity for the children of mixed race children when they are the best ambassadors possible when it comes to opening closed minds. The problem isn't with their mixed race heritage, it's with the people who can't get past it. They need to grow up and actually step up and voice their support when and if they see discrimination occurring. Else they be part of the problem. Aye!

that is just not true, and of course you defend him.

His first post regarding the subject:

Bans on interracial marriage Absolutely and you can add same sex marriages to this also.

    when asked to explain:

his answer was: 'to be perfectly honest, the word 'executed' comes to mind.'

there was no attempt to take a middle ground...he came out with the 'kill them' in his second post...and it just got worse from there...

Dont opt in to the political forum, what some of these people think will down right frighten you..the guy was/is a teacher or so he says....doesnt matter , its not like he even posts about coins here...I said I wouldnt continue this discussion and wont...this is my last word on it...just wanted to correct this misinformation.

This poll is such a no-brainer. Anyone not being fine with marriages between whoever wants to get married is soon to be living in the past.

If the glove fits, wear it.

You know Moen If I didn't know you better (the inner goodguy your often brusk uncouth outer persona camouflages) and what the consequences for such action is, I'd say you just called every citizen of the state of Texas a dirty name... LOL ;)

I didn't respond to the poll because I don't like the wording. I don't support interracial marriage, and I don't not support it. I don't really think about it much and I don't care who anyone else marries. It's none of my business.

It's a funny topic this one. When I was a child, young and naive, I can remember there was only one black child that attended our school in rural Iowa. I thought nothing of race then, tv was largely homogenous. Then we moved to Texas, and I didn't realize that diversity was more a norm than in my little hick town. I didn't understand interracial couples. Not even in my teen years, when I saw an interracial couple I'd think, wouldn't they be happier with one of their own? And please don't take this for racism, it was my own ignorance of the world at large. One of my grandfathers used the N word heavily, yet I never did see what he was talking about. But one day a light went on in my head, oh I must've been 16 or 17 and I realized that people will love who people will love, and that is all there is to it.

thats a cool story bq...kinda shows that people can certainly change...because of where I live, I have always been around, dated and had friends of all different races...but there are other things that, as I got older, I changed in how I believed...changed my outlook. What you say I truly believe, people will love who they love...one cannot help who they fall in love with. I think the more people understand this, the easier life will be for those who just happen to fall in love with someone of a different race...and for the kids they have. My wife has always thought people might feel we shouldnt be together but I was oblivious to it and thought she was just nuts...I know there are bigots but for some reason I never thought people would see anything was wrong with us being together...so I guess it just shocked me to read it...

After I read it and was on my way home, I was getting gas for the truck and saw that someone had etched 'kill all N*'s' on the pump several times...the whole thing seemed a bit surreal and I realized that we might have a ways to go yet...and maybe my wifes fear was not so crazy after all.

One thing my mother always said and I see now is soooo true.

'life is so hard already, why go out of your way to make it harder?'

I fail, often times, to remember this...often because of something that I take personaly, insults and what not...I need a thicker skin I guess.

I find it hard to believe that there are 10 people (so far) that are against interracial marriage in this forum alone. I thought people in this country had moved beyond something so shallow as prejudice against mixed race couples, whatever race means. I did notice that those who are against the practice don't muster up the courage to explain why they feel as they do while those that have nothing against it seem to expound unhesitatingly why they feel as they do. I think the next poll ought to be, "Are you a closet racist and what would the signs be"?

Moen, I think that maybe they vote no because of how it was worded...they do not 'support' it, they just dont care...which is probaly better anyway...to say they 'support' it would not be the right way to put it...not caring what people do when it comes to a relationship is not the same as supporting it, could be wrong...

    like orc said:

'I should also say I dont Support & I dont Disagree with it, as it is not my decision to make'
