It's no new type of math but you sure are pushing the bounds of logic with this post. Democrats are the majority in this country and have been for decades. They're sort of used to it. The point was that if you were to poll the entire country I'd bet that the overwhelming population concentrations of the cities and suburbs along with the more enlightened view of modern society towards race would bury the smaller more rural populations that trend toward older values of race relations in their insular environments. I can only guess at this as a person that has lived in many different environments in this country. I know that racism exists at all levels of society from the city to the smallest hamlet, but the fact that it isn't openly allowed on T.V., in schools, or any other aspect of our society without condemnation is enough to postulate that most people are open minded about race relations and a much, much small percent of the population may feel differently but even they recognize they are a dwindling minority. Did the Don Imus incident teach you nothing about societies tolerance for racism? Racists may seek each other out in the VFW's and honky tonks of this country but they conform to the rest of us when the rubber hits the road. As it should be when it comes to prejudice.
I'm a little surprised that such a enlightened individual as yourself, would put these words to gather in such a manner. Surely you aren't suggesting that those who attend VFW's and hinky tonks are havens for those you would label 'Raacist'. Isn't that a little like the pot calling the kettle black? Oh dang! There I went and used the wrong word again. Oh well, you know what I mean, don't you?
Actually I was just noting that 21 yes and 16 no votes to the poll hardly qualifies the 16 as the majority. I don't think that pushes the bounds of logic, or math.
Cloudsweeper99, You have given the most intelligent and unbiased answer. Drusus, Attacking OldDan is only venting off for you. You have to remember that we are all products of different generations and are reared by different packs. Most people who have grown up with a belief sometimes soften their assumptions as they age. By OldDans responses, I think he is becoming an old softie mellowing his views after being exposed to others.
Just to clarify, I didn't say 16 was a majority of people, I was just surprises that there was even 16 people or just under half of the votes that felt this way. It seems like a disproportionate number with regard to the entire population of this country. I was guessing that it was because this forum was so heavily populated with conservatives which traditionally have values that reflect past attitudes with regard to race issues. You are unlikely to find many progressive attitudes in heavily Conservative areas that's all. Conservative means more than just fiscally conservative. Many old attitudes that are no longer widely held are rolled in to the conservative pot. You just can't pick and choose the aspects you like about conservatives and ignore those that make you uncomfortable. Same goes for Liberals.
Looks like the poll has settled on about a 6 to 4 ratio of people that are for or have nothing against interracial marriage. I for one am glad this forum doesn't contain a representative sample of the greater population's opinion. I would hate to believe that 40% of that population is still living in the Dark Ages but then again maybe it is the actual ratio in this country. That would be sad and explain why this country still has so many problems in the area of race relations. Well, to the 40%, you have the rest of the country to help you along. Change is coming and like a train coming straight at you, you can either get out of the way, climb aboard, or get run over by it.
Guess you have never heard of derailment. Often when you least expect it to happen, and then with a big bang!
I wait for the train to slow down on a curve and then jump on and enjoy the ride at least until the next curve. Good thing I did not live in Kansas because I would still be on the train. IMHO, do not sleep on the train tracks because the trains do not make much noise when they are not blowing their horn.
