Here's a question for the group: If Limbaugh had called McNabb "a typical black quarterback" (regardless of context) would you consider that to be racist comment?
Wow! When did the NHL get so enlightened? There are almost enough non-whitey current players there to make half an NFL team! lol Nope, NHL and NASCAR fans are all racists. It is just the way things are. Sorry.
Pouting and Crying (looking at you Tim Tebow) are not qualities I want in a QB. Cutler has never been a winner and I think it shows. His attitude, as much as his play, has been a cancer to the team. I hope it changes but he has a lot of maturing to do before he can even carry McNaab's jockstrap (to paraphrase Larry Holmes).
Think you better stick to criticizing Cutler, Tim Tebow has as much heart and competitive determination as I have ever seen in an athlete. If you were hoping that a big arm quarterback was going to be the savior of the Bears franchise, disappointment was inevitable. The Bears need to get back to what they do best, defense, plain and simple.
I have been a Bears fan all of my life Lehigh. Back to the days of Butkus and company and, YES, defense is their forte as well as a run game. Question is - how many Superbowls has that won them? I agree Cutler is not the answer although he could be a pivotal piece to the puzzle. The Bears lack BALANCE and have basically forever. It's great to hold opponents to 6 points a game or so but if you only score 3 it still comes out as a loss. Been watching that all of my life and they can't even do that now. Two reasons I watch hockey. First, I LOVE the game and have followed the Hawks all of my life. SECOND, is they are actually doing something to make a run of it. I will NOT say this about the Bears.
I think it would be considered racist to those that find it offensive, regardless of it's intent. Far as the intent..that phrase, in that particular arrangement of words, is also racist. What's 'typical black' mean if it isn't racially slanted? Those in public arenas should be especially aware of that. Another brilliant observation there Davey.
Well genius, the reason I asked that question (and most here were sharp enough to pick up on it) is that Mmm Mmm Mmm BO was widely quoted, during the campaign, as referring to his grandmother (the one that raised him & paid his though college, by the way) as a "typical white woman". So.......?
Well, he has seemed that way when things were going good. Crying on the sidelines when you lose (and you aren't like 10 years old) is not exactly confidence inspiring in a leader. Defense and a running back along with a QB who won't lose the game for you and might win a few here and there, a receiver or two and a coach who seems to care what he score is. All those things might help. And, yes, I have been a Bears fan since I was a wee one.
Not me. These threads wander everywhere after their initial life is past. Rush, Hockey, Racism, Football... I mean, come on...how many pages can we debate Is Obama lying AGAIN??? He's a politician...of course he is lying! It takes less than a page to figure that one out. If a politician's lips are moving...he is lying. lol Now back to the football discussion.
So.......? The simple answer is that whites weren't enslaved as a race, so they really can't accurately comment on that experience, nor can they understand what the aftermath has meant to a race of people. They haven't had to be black. Different words have different connotations to different people, and yes, different races of people. So for someone whose race is a part of a formerly enslaved one, and in this particular case, to comment about a "typical white woman", raising him and other positive aspects, it infers that not all whites are as "typically" and as inherintly as bad as many past generations have experienced or have been told. That's a positive there Jethro. I've said before racism exists in everyone. It's a photograph of that individual's life experiences. It's a matter of reshaping those negative beliefs in a POSITIVE way. Acknowledging and addressing it is a positive thing, not the negative one you are trying to instigate. But that's ok....pretty typical.
What? Does this idiotic blithering make sense to anyone? I simply asked you if the phrase "typical black quarterback" was racist regardless of context. You said it was. Why,then, isn't "typical white woman" as muttered by Mmm Mmm Mmm BO not racist as well? Wait, I'll answer- it is racist. Blatantly racist. Racist in any context.
I wonder. If we traced out President's ancestors out for 200 or 300 years, I wonder if we would find more of his ancestors who were owned as slaves or that more of them owned slaves. I am betting the latter.
Do "typical white women" generally raise black grand children to become the President of The United States of America? I think the President was wrong on this one or he really has an extremely high regard of "typical white women".
I'll go with wrong on this one. The only person Mmm Mmm Mmm BO has an extremely high regard for is Mmm Mmm Mmm BO.
