Moen is wrong IQ. This topic is one that should be discussed. The real questions are how far are we willing to go to protect ourselves from terrorism and how much do we really want to know. There is that old line about two air lines. One does profile screening and full body scans. The other just lets anyone on without a peak. Which airline would you want your kids to fly on? This was a good thread IQ.

Join a "stupidity-fest"? Not really. Just because I busted you stupid word game before you got it off the ground. Nope, you got it all to yourself (and moen if he decides to join).

 

Part of the reason I started this thread was to focus on those opposing views on torture, though most of the reason was to point out how cowardly it is. All throughout America's history the topic has been an issue ...sometimes being allowed, sometimes not... but it's always been debated.

IMO, the debate should have been focused long ago on a couple of basic points. One of which should be what techniques can be called "torture", something that is basically done... but not unanimously. I believe that needs to be finalized if we are ever going to put this issue to rest.

Another is the type of person who it might be legitimately used against. In the past, the majority of torture was on spies or suspected spies who may have held valuable information. Today's al Qaeda-type leaders may also have some info... but unlike spies, they are not mentally trained to remember specific details or trained in techniques to ignore pain and fight interrogations. I simply do not see much value in torturing such people, especially considering the cost to our own moral values.

 

Show me proof.

Just go back a page or two and you'll see the level of respect moen has for you. Actually, I kinda feel sorry for you. That is the strangest thing about the left in general. They claim they for the people, for the common man but once they have a taste of power of any type they have a blood thirst and the letting begins.

 

As an example of this, look at the Nazis.

 

I happen to think that a civilized nation needs to act like an animal once in a while to stay as a nation but that nation will cease to be civilized if people do not make it as such by keeping a muzzle ready when needed to tame the dogs of war when their bite is no longer needed. So I disagree yet agree with your point of view.
