Liberal leaning posters: Who on the conservative, or right leaning side, not only card carrying GOP members would you vote for if they ran for president? Constitutional eligibility required.

Depends who they're running against, but I would probably go with a libertarian of some kind if I had to. At least the social laws (drug laws, prison reform, gay marriage, etc.) Would get through. Of those left in Congress now, Romney comes to mind for at least sticking to his principles and being more moderate (relatively).

Anyone that would rise above the chaff. Have high ideals and moral character. High enough moral character to be proud to espouse their own ideas and not those of the vocal members of their party.... I would absolutely vote for that person regardless of party affiliations. Sadly, I see nobody on our political landscape that meets that standard.

I’ll tell you of one person that would make a very honorable president. She is Republican and she was governor in my state. She is a first class human being that I absolutely would vote for regardless of party affiliation and that is Nikki Haley. That is a woman that got things done.

Not sure anyone is actually answering the question here. I'll go first. John Kasich.

What did you like about Haley?

I've heard mixed things about her. Some people said she was the future of the Republican party and would be president someday, some people were less happy with her. Fair warning, I have no context for why he said this and it was before he was elected:

Reading her policy positions she seems more reasonable than most on issues like climate change and abortion, but I wouldn't call myself a fan.

I couldn't begin to say why he said that. She removed herself as ambassador to the UN. Perhaps she wanted to distance herself from the man and as he always does, he retaliated in his typical brash style....... Nikki was a well loved governor in our state. She is a strong woman of conviction and is not a radical republican by any stretch. Hurricane Matthew dealt our state a pretty hard blow while she was governor and she responded fully in control. I know I am often looked upon negatively because I view a lot of our elected leaders from a business perspective and Nikki did bring a great deal of business to the state. Boeing and Amazon come to mind..... Thing is, she didn't paint herself as being tied up into the republican party though that was the platform she ran on. She was quite simply a very solid leader unencumbered by affiliation and dedicated to leadership.

Edit.... I remember this now. Nikki was not a Trump fan when he was campaigning and she was vocal about that. This must have been his retaliatory Tweet at the time.

The Democrats have pretty much run all of the moderates out of their party. There is really no one there for me to consider. West Virginia Senator, Joe Manchin, is probably the only one who would not get an immediate rejection from me. Joe Lieberman is a very honest guy, but he’s retired and probably too old at this point.

Bill Weld used to be a Republican and was elected Governor of Massachusetts as one. He left the party and has run a Libertarian in 2016 with a goof ball at the head of the ticket. It was what some people called a “kangaroo ticket” with a weak upper body and strong lower body. Weld is the only non-Republican on the scene I would consider strongly.
