Republican senator Macacca Comments! Senator George Allen singled out for the crowd’s attention a second-generation Indian-American, S.R. Sidarth, who is a videographer for Allen’s Democratic opponent, James Webb. Allen addressed Sidarth as “Macaca, or whatever his name is.” The senator went on to “welcome” Sidarth — a student at the University of Virginia — “to America” and the “real world of Virginia.” Macaca is a racial slur used against African immigrants. However, I've heard it said that you can put lip-stick on a pig, but it's still a pig! Now let's hear what Danr's interpretation is on the subject.
the word means baffoon in italian also, it also refers to another nail in the coffin of Allen's pitiful circus of a campaing. he will lose (and we will ALL be better off for it!)
There's a lot of politicians we would be better off without in both parties. But, as the old saying goes, don't count your eggs before they're hatched. Truth be told, though, Webb isn't all that bad for a Democrat. He is fairly moderate and does not appear to be the wacko, conspiracy theory, Bush hating neosocialist that most are. Some Democrats might want to be careful what they wish for.
I ran the word through translation and you are wrong (again), as the nearest thing to it is from the Portuguese and the word is in reference to a type of Asian monkey. Nice try but no cigars!:hail:
Told a friend who just happened to be Sicilian about the word 'macacca' being from his language dielect, and he said that you had apparently watched too much of Frank Sinatra's movies when he was working with the 'rat pack'. He said this this the term Frank used for both Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. when he thought they had pulled a bonner. It was no big deal when used, and it was the only time that he had ever heard the word. He also had heard it used when someone was making the point that a person had acted like a baboon, so maybe you were just picking up on some of this usage. Come to think of it, the word baboon and baffoon are very similar, wouldn't you agree. Language is a very interesting topic, so what would you like to talk about next?:thumb:
