In a different thread, dr moen claimed the country has enough money it's "just in the wrong hands". Please elaborate, dr moen. I can only assume he is referring to taxation. From what I understand the "rich" in this country are already paying the bulk of the taxes. What is it, something like the top 10% pay 40% of the taxes? While 50% of the people not only pay NOTHING they actually get tax refunds due to exemptions and deductions. The lowest earners are taxed at 10% while the top pays 35%...and these people aren't paying their fair share? While we're at it, dr moen, you made reference to "how many houses" should a rich guy own? Why don't you answer that question for us? How many homes should someone be allowed to own? And please tell us how you came to your answer.
Your stats are off a little. Try the top 1% ($380,354 and up) pay 38.02%, the top 10% ($113,799) pay 69.94%, and the top 50% ($33,048) pay 97.30%. National Taxpayers Union - Who Pays Income Taxes?
I cite these numbers again and again to people and nobody wants to hear it. I tell one guy I know all the time. I ask don't you think it's ridiculous that 50% of the people in this country pay no taxes? Not only are they voters who have no skin in the game but they actually receive money back for nothing! Answer: "The poor are the least of this country's problems. What they get back in taxes, welfare, food stamps, medicaid, unpaid social security benefits etc., etc.. is a drop in the bucket compared to white collar crime and how much the rich 'steal'." But somehow the top 10% is paying nearly 70% of the taxes. David, I will speak for Mr. Moen, since I've heard this enough times already. "The rich are not paying as much as they should...... ummmm, oh yeah... there's this 2% (the imaginary 2% club) at the top that are detached from these figures and completely evade all forms of tax by any means necessary, via loopholes supposedly instituted by the right." (Loopholes which are never repealed by their liberal saviors despite years of opportunity to do so.) Oh yeah. The Bush tax cuts that I don't think anyone fully understands, and that were extended by Obama, are supposedly the reason for all our ills.
I've never been able to understand the reason for progressive taxation. Why not have a flat tax, applied to all income above a tax-deductable personal amount for basic necessities?
I think dr moen is showing his complete lack of character by dodoging this thread & refusing to tell us all what he meant by the US's money being "in the wrong hands".
