Name three people from your political party of choice or politician in general that you’d say you agree with just about everything they say in public. Not things other people say that they have said but direct quotes. I’m not asking you to agree with specific quotes but rather trying to get an idea of how you swing politically. I’ll start: Senator Bernie Sanders Representative Alan Grayson Senator Al Franken These three represent my views probably better than anyone in D.C. Before criticizing my choices, name your own three. Then feel free to post quotes by my choices and see if I agree with them or not.
OOH! Can I represent the right?! Cool.. Christine O'Donnel Sarah Palin George Bush (the right's best and the brightest representative at the time)
I don't think I could come up with 3 that meet that criteria. Most everything I vote or see is a compromise. I tend to side pretty liberal on social issues and moderate conservative on economic issues and most constitutionality issues. But, then I tend to be very non-interventionist too. Someone who had those kinds of beliefs would never make it to being a candidate of either party. lol Maybe Ron Paul but I don't agree with everything he says either. But, I do tend to agree with him on a lot of stuff.
I can't say I agree with everything they say or do but these are my faves at the moment: Mike Pence Mike Huckabee Eric Cantor Edit: Looks like Jack & I posted at the same time...I have said all along that Pence will emerge as a front runner in '12.
Yeah , seriously. Newt is not only and excellent historian and conservative, but he stands for the conservative principles that I am inline with. Your #1 pick, is a registered socialist. Your #2 pick has been busted taking quotes out of context and is in dire straights as far as relection goes. He is an angry hateful man. Your #3 pick has been elected by convicted felons and votes found in trunks of cars...... My 3 might not be the best, but as far as what they stand for, yeah, I can support those guys.
This is probably one of the best recent threads....it puts us on an issue and a candidate......and nails us down to what we stand for. Very provacitive Mr Moen, but very good..that's what this site should be. We have to state what we stand for instead of sniveling and whining about what we hate and how we have been cheated in life. Losers, stay home, those that contribute, speak your peace.
Oh yeah...I remember Newt. Wasn't he the right's mouthpiece railing against Clinton for his indiscretions while screwing around on his first.....no his second....er....no..his third wife? Great representative of the typical right wing hypocrisy though, I must admit. Family values and all that.
Newt couldn't be a bigger hypocrite if he slammed his current wife in public for infidelity. You actually agree with his characterization of Obama as an anti-colonist/pro-Kenyan (whatever the hell that means)? #1 Bernie Sanders is a registered independent. You can't find him as a registered Socialist anywhere. That's just a right wing talking point. #2 Grayson can steal all the quotes he wants as long as I agree with them. I think the only thing he hates is Republican hypocrisy. I can agree with that kind of hatred. #3 Again, nothing but Right wing talking points and nobody waited longer than Al Franken to be seated due to the closeness of the votes and the State of Minnesota trying to do it right. Your complaint is just another Right wing talking point that is designed to de-legitimize another Democrat's election. Standing for something is one thing. But can you agree with EVERYTHING they say? That is the real test.
Thanks Jack! I think that many will not have the courage of their convictions to actually give an answer or even make a post. Most people here would rather play the win/lose game and slam each other. Although it would be nice if some of them actually had the awareness to realize when they were losing.
I was not aware of Gingrich and his filandering, thanks dfor the wake up..it apears to e true As with agreeing with everything? Not going to happen, I am a thinking man, lol. About Sanders, although registered as an Indy, he is a self described socialist. http://www.democracynow.org/2006/11/8/vermonts_bernie_sanders_becomes_first_socialist. This is his official Senate Page with him calling himself a socialst, no talking points needed: http://sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/news/?id=7b6eba9b-67f5-4d8f-bc75-ce63a07035d2
Didn't Grayson refer to the dem party as God-like at some point? And didn't he say the dem party is all you'll ever need? I don't remember his exact words but I think it was something along those lines. And Stuart Smalley? Well, doggonit he's good enough.....
I don't mind a Socialist voice amongst the throng of Capitalists. In fact, I think it is entirely a good thing to consider the situation of those that actually do the work in this country. I wish that we had more self-described Socialists like sanders in this country. Many, if not most of our allies, have some degree of Socialism as a part of their political make up. They seem to being doing just fine without sliding into Soviet Era style regimes.
Heck, we've got a HUGE socialist element within our gov't, wouldn't you agree? And are we doing "just fine"?
I do not agree with everything Gingrich says and some of the things he says make me very uncomfortable. But I do agree with him heavily on some things and there is a possibility I would vote for him if he ran in 2012 against the current President especially if the budget is still out of control. I would really have to look hard at those stances he has that make me uncomfortable, though.
Wow, we went from he is not a socialist, thats just a talking point to I would like to see more socialists ......hmmmm And I now dont know if I would vote for Newt. If man will cheat on his wife, he will cheat on anybody. I do like his political views tho.....
Well thats because he isn't a member of the Socialist Party in the United States. To be a card carrying Socialist, I'd assume that you'd have to actually belong to the party to obtain the card. Hence, a Right wing talking point. My next point, reinforced by several of our closest allies, was that a dash of Socialism wouldn't be all that bad in a land more or less completely dominated by a single ideology. Any system taken to extreme is bound to cave in under the weight of it's own excesses. Capitalism is no exception. Communism certainly was no exception.
I take him at his word. HE said he is a socialist. I am a republican, but not registered as one, I am also registered an Independant. I left the party when they went on a spending spree that would mke a liberal proud. And when they nominated closet progressive McCain as the nominee. It is not a talking point, it is a fact. Bernie Sanders is a self avowed Socialist. Period. If you think socialism has a place in America, thats damn scary. I'm just sayin.
