Ronald and Nancy's long life together, inseparable, full of love for each other, doesn't appear to mean much to you.

My short-lived time here with you, apart, full of hate for each other, doesn't mean much to me, but you always seem to ask about me, when I'm away.

What make you think I'm the only person here who reads your hate-filled words and wonders why you, a republican, can't even take a moment of time to show respect for someone like Nancy Reagan?

To be honest, I wasn't going to show my respect for her marriage to Ronald until you showed how little you have for her. To be fair, it isn't expected of me to say anything, given that I view her husband's legacy as one that resulted in nothing less than the subversion of the U.S. economy and subsequent deterioration of our infrastructure. Even worse, his Presidency encouraged new generations of republicans to ignore good-will in favor of hatred resulting in a decayed sense of respect for people who are not "conservatives". That magnified the damage even more, creating a culture that despises taxes (the life-blood of our economy), the government (the means to which society flourishes without resorting to anarchy) and promoted hatred across the board (fueled by fear).

But you, you love that shit (not that you believe my summarization though) and you are a republican, someone supposedly worshipping at the alter of the Great and Wonderful Reagan. For you not to show proper respect for the wife of the man who means so much to your party, that's tantamount to treason. Or maybe not. Maybe you, and other republicans here, don't view Reagan as the Messiah, anymore.

Still, as a republican, you'd think you would at least say a kind word or two about her ...but you haven't. All you've done so far is prove how much you value your hatred.

 

This is a typical diatribe of psychobabble. Ronald Reagan made noticeable improvements to the economy, helped bring to an end communist tyranny throughout Europe, inspired a generation of Americans to be financially successful, and had a decent character, but you don't appreciate these qualities, so what does that say about you? I suggest you look in the mirror next time you accuse someone of being something you yourself are.

Update: In spite of the announcement of funeral plans, Nancy Reagan is still dead.

 

It would be nice if this thread were dedicated only to condolences to Mrs. Reagan and her family. Should anyone wish to discuss her husband's politics, it would be nice if another thread were started. In my opinion and out of respect for the departed, this thread is not the place for that.

 

3 out of the 4 republicans who have posted here disagree with that.

 

The fact is, taxes are the lifeblood of the economy. Reaganomics severely slashed tax rates. The results were that the government had a reduced revenue stream and the National Debt increased three-fold during his Presidency. That's a downward slope that, if not corrected, inevitably leads to a failed State. When you reduce taxes and government, the country's economy declines. The government funds, builds and maintains critical infrastructures. Without funding, those infrastructures begin to deteriorate and eventually fail.

If you believe big business is going to come to the rescue, you're a fool. Despite 35 years of big business receiving tax breaks and incentives of every kind, they continue to outsource their manufacturing to countries that provide cheap labor. If you think you can compete, then go work 1oo hours a week picking oranges in Florida for $65 a week while living with 20 other people in a trailer. Cheap labor is willing to do that, would you be?

Now say that taxes are eliminated. The government would be led by volunteers, since there would be no revenue to pay salaries. Big business would have the $$$, but if you think you're going to keep your current wages or salary, think again. You'd be lucky to find work at all, given that everyone would be desperate for it. You'd work for food and shelter, if there was any work to be found.

Face it, Reagan sucked, republicans suck, so vote for Democrats in 2016.
