I just heard Obama bragging about his father in his speech today in Kansas. I am sure this is not word for word, but you will get the idea.

"My father fought in WWII in Patton's army ....."
Now, from what I can glean, Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. was born 18 June, 1936. Maybe I am missing something here, but how many other 9 year olds do you know who fought it WWII? For Patton, no less? Is BO saying that Barack Hussein Obama, Sr. is not his father?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it isn't word-for-word either.

Quote from Obama Kansas Dec 6th Speech:

My grandparents served during World War II -- he as a soldier in Patton’s Army, she as a worker on a bomber assembly line. Together, they shared the optimism of a nation that triumphed over a Depression and fascism. They believed in an America where hard work paid off, responsibility was rewarded, and anyone could make it if they tried -- no matter who you were, where you came from, or how you started out.

If he flubbed the line grandfather and said father it's not such a stretch. He was essentially raised by his grandfather. Maybe you could post the speech and we can tell if Obama flubbed a line or is it that your old ears ain't what they used to be?

I don't know about the father/grandfather thing but isn't this piece I quoted contrary to basic far left, liberal philosophy? I can't begin the count the number of times I've said something similar & had tomc, moen and iqless tell me it just wasn't so.

That sounds like a good, capitalist spirit. Unfortunately, Obama caved in to the liberal and socialistic ideology of his whacko college professors, pin-headed spiritual guide and bomb-making associates. That doesn't say much for his strength of character.

Remember he's a liberal..."strength of character" doesn't exist in his world.

It's out of context. The part you quoted supports your belief. The way Obama used it doesn't.

It's like if someone said "I liked it that Hitler went into Russia, if he hadn't the war may have lasted longer than it did."

...but the quote loses it's context when you cut it: ""I liked it that Hitler went into Russia..."

Maybe not the best example... but *poof* it, I'm tired lol

I like the fact that the premise of the entire thread is false. It really shows how these RW'ers never stop at just being wrong, they double down and move on to new erroneous attacks and completely ignore the fact that they were wrong from the git-go. Hey, I think I just came up with the dictionary definition for them. Two posts in a row, two posts completely false. Battin’ a 1000!

Out of context? Are you kidding me? It's exactly what moen posted!!!!!
Geesh, are you both *poof* (did I get that right?)?

I posted the ENTIRE quote, NOT the abbreviated quote the Right likes to trot out. Just admit that you've been buying a RW lie for the better part of a year. The quote isn't so much out of context as it is truncated for the purposes of instigating a lie ala Breitbart.

For the sake of clarity...are you telling us that does not share the views of his grandparents in regards to this quote:

"My grandparents served during World War II -- he as a soldier in Patton’s Army, she as a worker on a bomber assembly line. Together, they shared the optimism of a nation that triumphed over a Depression and fascism. They believed in an America where hard work paid off, responsibility was rewarded, and anyone could make it if they tried -- no matter who you were, where you came from, or how you started out."

Here's what I mean by out of context. The paragraph below is what's being quoted the most. I underlined the sentence that is quoted most often. It's meaning is straightforward, Obama's grandparents believed in hard work being rewarded.

The following quote is the paragraph immediately after the one above, and continues it's sentiment:

This next quote is what I'm talking about. While the above comments stand on their own to describe how things used to be, the next paragraph in his speech provides the context, the reason for the first two paragraphs above. They (the paragraphs above) were background information meant to lead into this paragraph, since it contains Obama's point.

So, the first two paragraphs were the old way of thinking that some still cling to, while the third paragraph states the reality Obama and a significant portion of Americans believe in. Out with the old ways, we're dyin' here lol

...and that sentiment continues through the end of his speech:

Actually, I have been going back and forth between this set of RW lies and the the Pelosi RW set of lies and I think I was answering the question based on the Pelosi thread. Funny, it still seems applicable for some reason.

I have no idea how you think "context" in any way, shape, or form affects the meaning of what he said.

To be fair, Moen belayed the rope out for you to trip over. It's not his fault if you got all tangled in it though, you should look where you step! :D

    I guess I'm a bit confused here.
moen & iqless (real question here), are you two claiming BO was, in a sense, mocking his grandparents belief that one can achieve through hard work & responsibility will be rewarded?
