I think each person has to question whether or not excessive force was used. This is the same question that the administrators in the police department will have to answer. Perhaps excessive force was used, perhaps not. I'm not going to play Armchair General and say, "Excessive force was used", simply because I don't know all the facts. Once all the facts are revealed, I may offer an opinion.

That's an idea they really should look into. And that's not an insult, you overly-sensitive right-wing apologizers!

Neither was the last sentence. :D

Well for one thing it doesn't look to me like they're blocking a street. Looks more like they are sitting across a campus sidewalk. I don't see that they are blocking vehicular traffic in any way, preventing people from getting to or from their jobs or wherever they happen to be going, or posing a potential problem for emergency vehicles. I don't think we have a public safety issue here.

Secondly all accounts that I've seen state that the students were peacefully protesting, which is kind of one of the things that Americans are supposed to be able to do. I think DeeNeely has covered the various aspects of that pretty well. The picture pretty much says it all as far as I'm concerned.

Have you ever met an argument that you didn't throw yourself into the middle of? I don't even see why this concerns you. Are you so desperate to have someone to argue with that you insert your opinion into every disagreement you can? You're like a parasitic creature that feeds on disharmony. You never fail to come into a conversation both guns blazing. When I see two people disagreeing about some point, my first inclination isn't to throw myself into the middle of it. I think most of us have at one point or another but you seem to look for it and revel in the negativity. I don't know any other forum member in all the years I've been here that spends so much time cultivating discord as you do. I bet you have damn few friends if any that could tolerate your love of arguing for very long. Just saying YUCK!

Why is it that you don't wait for all the facts in other cases? I'll tell you why: Because then you'd be reeeeal quiet ...and there's propaganda to spread.

Here's what I think they should have done: Grab each person individually, cuff 'em, process 'em. I should note that I'm not anti-Occupy here... only that if the cops intended to arrest them, then arrest them... don't use pepper-spray when it's not necessary to make that arrest.

One reason I shouldn't be in the movement is because I'd have no issue grabbing that can and (attempt to) shove it down the cops throat... but that's me, I'm like that... I'd understand the beating I'd take afterward, and the prison sentence... but I'd be damned if I'd let that cop do that to me without a fight. I'm stupid that way.

Actually it was an idea Roger Ailes proposed to Richard Nixon back in the 1970's. He called it GOP T.V. back then. When Roger Ailes finally got around to making it a reality, he called it Fox News instead. True story.

Well, if you've already made up your mind based solely on a picture, what more can be said? I encourage you, however, if you feel deeply and passionately about what is happening in our world to please investigate further (not just this story, but any news story). The media is notoriously left-leaning in this country and, while they sometimes get the facts straight, please keep in mind that they do have a liberal agenda. So, please don't let a photo sway you, or a video clip, or a snippet of news or a discussion on a blog. Seek the truth. If you still come to the same conclusion after thorough investigation, then so be it. I might even agree with you.

No, I haven't made up my mind based solely on the picture. It simply sums it up for me. I've made up my mind based on the videos I've seen and reports from ABC News, NPR, the LA Times, The Guardian. And just to make sure I was being fair and balanced I checked out Fox, whose report was in line with what I was reading elsewhere. I have also looked at a number of blogs, but I don't normally use them as sources because I consider them opinionated by nature. So based on what I have seen at this point I stand by my criticism of the way the police behaved and I think I am well supported.

I guess that is your normal response when someone introduces some facts you don't like into someone else's discussion. You only response is always just insults. I would have expected nothing better from you.

I have vague recollections of that... if I remember right, Nixon was positively giddy with the idea.

What? Nobody gonna denounce my comment: "One reason I shouldn't be in the movement is because I'd have no issue grabbing that can and (attempt to) shove it down the cops throat... but that's me, I'm like that... I'd understand the beating I'd take afterward, and the prison sentence... but I'd be damned if I'd let that cop do that to me without a fight. I'm stupid that way. "...?

...Fine, then I will! ...and I'd also point out that the 'Occupiers' would denounce the comment. They routinely kick-out people like me... and I'm fine with that too. ;)

I understand my proclivities... it is what it is. I've noticed some on here have a propensity to bs (myself included on occasion, such as this one)... but that is their proclivity.

(ponders)..."...things begining with the letter "p" apparently... or maybe just words with a "p" in them?" (an example of my type of bs)

Yes, what you said was very bad. *smacks IQless1 on the wrist* Don't do it again. (As to the Occupy folks kicking people out with similar forms of behavior--don't know; haven't seen it). I didn't denounce it earlier because I was bathing dogs and watching Tony Stewart win the Sprint Cup trophy. :D

It seems like the lion's share of violence we have seen across the country at these protests has been perpetrated by the "authorities" not the protesters. It is hard to argue against that fact. The police have been the ones with the heavy hand just like they were during the 60's. I guess if you twist reality in an extreme manner you can say that the violence wouldn't happen if there was no protests. I know that type of logic passes the sniff test for some. I think that the same type of people that would have or did see the 60's antiwar protesters as "undesirables" probably see these protesters the same way. They were wrong back then and they are wrong today. These protesters are young, the ones mainly being affected, and aren't going anywhere. Get used to them. They have almost won.
