Pelosi Says She Would Drain GOP 'Swamp'

Franklin Roosevelt had his first hundred days, but Pelosi thinks 100 hours, time enough to drain GOP Swamp. As the House meets and Pelosi takes the gavel as the first Madam Speaker in history. Her goals for the first 100 hours are:

Day One: Put new rules in place to "break the link between lobbyists and legislation."

Day Two: Enact all the recommendations made by the commission that investigated the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

With the time remaining until 100 hours: Raise the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour, maybe in one step. Cut the interest rate on student loans in half. Allow the government to negotiate directly with the pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices for Medicare patients. Broaden the types of stem cell research allowed with federal funds _ "I hope with a veto-proof majority,"

O.K. so what did she get done? All talk and no show! Typical Democtatic promises.

This has nothing to do with parties and everything to do with politicians in general as they are both the same in this regard...

minimum wage DID just go up recently though...not that high and I dont know if she had anything to do with it but it was raised recently.

    KLJ Really Smart Guy

The minimum wage is $7.15 here in Pennsylvania, and I know it's even higher in some locales.

As for Pelosi doing things on her own, she can make all the promises she wants, but unless she also convinces the Senate (with a super-majority there, if necessary) and the President (a long shot on both), her promises aren't worth the paper they're printed on. Drusus is right. It's politics, nothing more.

You are both right! I was just calling your attention to the promises made and not kept. Sure they were foolish when first made, but here is the speaker of the house making this type of stataement. That in itself gives you some idea of what to expect from the fall of 2008 till the fall of 2012 if the Democrats make it into the white house. Katie bar the door!

When you see the Marine salute President Hillary Clinton, pigs will fly.

I think she is a good woman to put up with her whatever. But she will not be President nor any Democrat in the near future. I will bet a dime against a donut!

I am only commenting that she can not be elected. She is on the fringe but we are the grass roots.

    Moen1305 Not Republican!

While it is true that everyone does have an opinion, not everyone has an opinion that is based on any type of rational thinking. The next leader of this country will definitely be a Democrat, Clinton and Obama are the leading Democrats therefore it is at least 50/50 that she'll be the next president no matter how much you might not want it to be. Just a small reality check. Welcome back.
