Read this artical http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/us_kennedy_massachusetts_senate/2009/08/20/250140.html Problem is, the law he wants changed to " better serve the people " is his law that they passed in 2004 in case John Kerry won the POTUS. Yep, Mitt Romney , a repo would have been able to appoint an interim replacement. What a scumbag piece of carp. Mary Jo Kopechne was unable for comment.
" A cancer-stricken Sen. Edward M. Kennedy has written a poignant letter to Massachusetts leaders asking that they change state law to allow a speedy replacement of him in Congress. The note to Gov. Deval Patrick and the state's Senate president and House speaker acknowledges the state changed its succession law in 2004 to require a special election to fill any vacancy. At the time, legislative Democrats were concerned Republican Gov. Mitt Romney would be able to fill any vacancy created as Sen. John Kerry ran for president. But Kennedy writes "it is vital for this commonwealth to have two voices speaking for the needs of its citizens and two votes in the Senate." The letter was sent Tuesday, but Kennedy aides insist there is no material change in his condition since he was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor in May 2008. Kennedy's absence from last week's funeral for his sister, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, prompted a flurry of questions about his own health. " I missed the "scumbag" part. What is bugging you about this?
whats bugging me? Ted Kennedys existance. Now, about the law. He said in 04 that it was unfair to the folks of MA to have a govorner ( Repo Romney ) appoint a senator, that the people should hold a special election within 5 month of a seat vacancy. Today, in obviously failing health perhaps he is think he might miss the vote due to ......possible demise by some way or another lose his ability to " serve " Massachusetts. This time however, it is a Dem governor, so forget the folks of MA, it's ok for the governor to appoint now. Ted Kennedy, you are a disgrace to the people of MA just as McCain is to my state. Kennedy does not represent the people, he represents the party and himself. Fook the people, right Ted? again, Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment
Sorry folks late night post. What Kennedy is doing makes sense. The best analogy I can come up with to defend my point is this. If I am on a team in a sport, and I am a man short. Someone on the bench of the other team is not going to be my first choice to replace him. That said, I feel it would be great if they held a special election, but my suspicions are that as long as Kennedy can draw a breath he will not relinquish his power until he is sure someone in his party will replace him.
Dan, your comment is exactly the attitude that is allowing this sort of behavior to flourish- "so what, everybody does it". Right back to someting I posted in a different thread....those that are lowering the bar are enemies to what this country stands for. Those that condone it & allow it to happen around them are every bit as guilty. In essence, you are supporting one man's attempt to control what happens in our country. If he gets his way, the people of MA may not have a voice in who represents them therefore the will of the people won't necessarily be represented on a national stage. With the balance of power being what it is in the Senate, Kennedy's appointee can be the deciding factor in several important pieces of legislation.
..just saying, Tom Delay did worse on a daily basis. This is pretty minor compared to a lot of stuff that goes on every day on capital hill.
According to several articles I've read, the leading candidate for temporary appoitment to Ted's Senate seat is ... JOE Kennedy, Ted's nephew and Bobbie's son. Although Joe, a former member of the House of Representatives, says he doesn't want the seat, when a relative's name is mentioned, there's a problem. The seat has been in the Kennedy family for 57 years. This isn't North Korea people.
It would be totally trailer trash and crass to say anything but good about him today. I admit I was shocked when I heard the news this morning. For one, this guy stood his ground, proclaiming himself a "proud Liberal", make no mistake, he knew who he was and was unapologetic. That is admirable in this day and age as folks try to be something they are not. Ted was Ted, you knew what you were getting. Kudo's for your spine Ted. I also know how the death of a loved one takes it toll on the family, children, grandchildren etc etc. I will today pray for the Kennedys and hope God eases them thru the pain at this very bad time. They lost 2 this month. God bless them.
I do find myself eating crow. This guy has sponsered and passed some kick ass bills, great stuff for the average American. I never would have dreamed I would find some common ground with this dirtbag, but I have. He DID do some good. Does that make my post non relevant? nope. I stand by my original opinion. However, as honest as I can get, I never educated myself as to the good this man did. For that, I thank him. I will not however forget the fact that he left a young woman for dead and let her suffer a drowning death, the most horrible death of all, simply for political expediancy and convieniance.
Don't forget that Teddy was a pretty outspoken opponent to abortion until he figured out that he could garner more liberal support by advocating it.
What bugged me most about Teddy was the murder of Mary Jo Kopechne and his back door dealing with ( then ) communist Russia against Reagans missle defence. He put partisan politics against national defense, and that is dangerous folks. I don't give a hoot about his legendary womanizing or his liberal tilt, it was his " character " ( lack of ).
Murder? I dont think that was his intention. And based on your previous posting you think murder should be punished by death. I take it you didnt mind Reagan's back door dealings with Iran. C'mon we won anyway.
I forgot about Kennedy being caught with his pants down literally in a drunken stupor and his reference to Obama as "Osama" until all of these "tributes" starting hitting the air. Yep, real stand up guy, a pillar of the community.
