I have some friends there, one friend is an MP which I thought would be safe until I found out that he had to set up roadblocks. Anyone have interesting stories from Iraq (either friends or yourself) not news stories but something that you or a friend/relative was involved in.
Nothing as deadly now as our men and women are facing everyday overthere. The biggest threat we ever faced was the (RARELY) occasional SCUD missile, mines, and Camel Spiders. During the first war (Desert Shield/Storm), Aug90-Mar91 I spent some time in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. DON'T get off the established trails when you go to the head/can... Bone
My grand-daughter is a Blackhawk mechanic with the 4th of the 3rd (Patton's 3rd ID). She allegedly volunteered for a bunch of helicopter flights over Baghdad as a door-gunner (M-60). They commonly take ground fire from AK-47s and RPGs on these over-flights. Fortunately for her and the crew, her chopper was up-armored with base-plates. Some 30-caliber rounds fragmented upon impact. She got knicked in the face and arm. One of her chums took a round in the leg. She apparently opened up with the door gun and laid down supressing fire into a farm below. She never saw the shooter, but killed an Iraqi cow. She was teased mercilessly by her comrads. She was also allegedly chased by an agressive camel spider on the helicopter tarmac when she first arrived. She ran over to pick up a piece of trash blowing across the tarmac before it got sucked up into an intake. It was not trash. It stopped, turned around, and reared up on it's back legs. Then went after her. These spiders are as big as a baseball with legs and very ugly.
