The left does have control of our schools and of which text books get brought so publishers print towards the left so their product gets bought.

I agree with you OldDan, the school is a government institution and unfortunally instead of being nonpartisan and objective it is leftist and the left just want to take away the right of parents ,of children's free thought and choice.

There are a lot of options if someone dislikes their school curriculum. Home school, private school, charter school are a few. Most people are very satisfied with their own child's school, but dislike education in general.

My point is that the public schools are paid with tax dollars. No one should have to feel that they have to pull their kid out for alternative sex is being taught, Islam is holy is being taught, Evolution being taught as fact and not Theory. School was meant to prepare the youth not brain wash them with the lefist viewpoints.
School should be neutral and objective for that is where free thought comes from
and more attention should be given to real subject matter and less to fluff or an agenda.

Now Danr when are you getting married?

I'm married ('bout 3 years and still happy). We may have some common ground on this one Andy, I think a well thought out voucher program may improve ed. and give parents the kind of options that you want. Many parents may want to keep their kids in these "brainwashing" schools and that could be an option in the marketplace of ideas.

Congrats. I am sure it is never boring in your home.

I am actually against vochers for I like the idea of a public school that is made up of Americans from many different backgrounds. I am concerned that vochers would lead to Catholics being more and more lumped together in a Catholic school, Baptists in a Baptist school, etc.......

I just want the school system to be non-political.
They are there to teach not preach.
So lets focus in more on the math, the science, the languages, the reading,
and let anything else be PE,Art and Music.

It really isn't a hard concept.

Oh face it Andy. Until we start teach kids that the earth is only 6,000 years old, dinosaurs never existed, and having faith is superior to knowledge, the Christian morons of the country will never be happy.

Do you know why the religious right fears education? Because it proves that they are full of sh**! Knowledge has been the enemy of faith for as long as religion has existed. Why is that, because a belief in something that doesn't exist is one hard lie to maintain? The contradictions are too plentiful to name. Evolution, like all sciences is taught as a theory. The entire purpose of science is to propose a theory and try to prove it over time. It is a best educated guess. Faith is more akin to superstition and folklore.

Think about how many religions there are in the world today. And there are even more that existed and are now gone. Somehow, the morons today think they are the only true believe system. What a bunch of arrogant idiots. If it wasn't so damn scary, it'd be funny.

Catholics for the most part believe in evelution, as do many christians, I think that it is a pretty small group that reject it. I am not taking a stand on the issue I am just pointing out that not many people believe the creationist story as history (does anyone remember who called dinosaurs "Jesus horses"?). Moen your views are pretty out there too, there are many people of faith who are not as extreme as you say, as a matter of fact many of the worlds leading scholars are Jesuit priests.

It is not the people of faith I have a problem with. It is the aggressors pretending to be the victims that bother me. We're victims of the liberals...We're victims of the leftists...We're victims of the media...We're victims of Hollywood. While all along, no one is telling them what to believe in or how to worship and yet they somehow feel victimized by society. As far as I'm concerned, the Christian right wing nuts can all go to South America and drink the Kool-Aid and keep their moronic beliefs to themselves.

That fringe religious right can get scary, they make a lot of noise for such a small group. I am under the understanding that some of them want a war in the Middle East in order to make Jesus return sooner. Serious theologians really can't even engage them in conversation on religion.
I guess religious extremism is scary in all its forms Islam and Christian.

Moen, I couldn't agree more. It's pretty crappy that people want things like creationism taught in school, when clearly it is not factual in the least. While I think evolution has some serious flaws, it is a much more sound theory. Religion too, scares me, as people will do some crazy stuff, when following religion. I understand being religious, as I think it makes people have a sense of being, but it's not a good thing as a whole IMO.

The reason right wing christians are scared, is because they are afraid that their religion will have some serious holes poked in it. And I don't even think it is an overt fear, but rather a subconscious fear. However, for me, all it took was 12 years of my life in a christian school, to see the many, many problems with all religions, including christianity. (these are my personal beliefs, not trying to offend anyone)

I never said anything about Creationism.

I said that the teachers need to teach and not preach.
That the curriculum should be objective.

now as far as the Theory of Evolution is concerned, it is a Theory filled with holes.
but it is now being taught more and more in schools as a fact.
How is this developing young minds to question the flaws and look for solutions.

As for Creationism. That does not belong in school unless it is a Sunday school.
Like I said, teachers should teach and not preach.

"I guess religious extremism is scary in all its forms Islam and Christian,"
    Danh.

Islam is in only one gear and that is extremist. Read the Koran.
Christianity can be abused but it is not about abuse.
Judaism is basically leave us alone and we leave you alone and everyone is cool.

Moen: You could say whatever you want to about "Faith".
But if you were ever in a foxhole I am sure you will find "Faith"
    very attractive.

I know I do, but my wife knows that I think Faith Hill is hot and
    she's cool with that.

Christianity is definitely not an evil religion compared to Islam. And evolution really does have tons and tons of holes in it : )

Your wrong...there are facts...here is a site that you need to read...
    http://www.answersingenesis.org/home.aspx

I have met some of the guys that have articles on this site (Mr. Ham for one) and have read and listened to many articles and talks for both sides...
If you want to find holes you will always make holes to find...but when it all comes out...the hole you made only hurt yourself.

I hope that you read the link and anyone else here that thinks the same way...if you have any questions there are email address's on the site where you can ask...they can explain much better than I can.

Faith doesn't need to be factual, they can just make it up as they go along.

I think that article has a little too much bias, saying things like evolutionists have no belief in god, I personally have no doubts at all to the existence of God, in fact I feel it would be impossible for there not to be a god, but I don't believe in creationism. Intelligent design would be much more plausible IMO, although I don't think that is right either.
