The Health Care System Recently

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this or if it is just applicable to my situation, but I have noticed that my dental coverage has actually gotten a little better than it had been AND the medical co-pays have been lifted from certain procedures through my health care provider. This is the only time in years I have seen coverage actually get better rather than more costly. Its not much but I'd like to know if anyone else has noticed similar savings?

 

Guess no one but you has seen any “savings” ……but on a related note a 81 year old women from Shelby Ohio reports the following…..

"I went to my doctor three weeks ago and I had to renew a prescription and they're setting up a new computer program there. I went into the office and they took my blood pressure and all that, and then they started firing a lot of questions at me, health and all that, and finally they get to: "Do you own a gun?" "I'm 81." And then I said, "What's that for?" And they said, "Oh, it's for the protection of the children." Well, my four kids are in their fifties."

 

Seems like it. I just thought that it was sort of strange that after years of diminishing coverage, increasing costs, and less service, suddenly my various coverage’s got better and slightly less expensive.

 

Must be George Bush's tax cuts for the top 2% finally kicking in.

Moen, I have a question that I think that you are better suited to answer than the other 10 in this forum, but if anyone else can help, I would appreciate it.

My daughter is in her first year of college and in one class the teacher is a flaaaammmming lesbian. From the first day of class this women has made her sexuality the focal point of the class. She sometimes spends over half the class talking about her situation with her girlfriend. She came in a couple of days ago hysterically crying about the problems her and her girlfriend were having. So now my daughter has to write a paper on same sex marriage and can only use 3 specific sources. All of these sources are far left wing blogs with far left wing views. This paper can only reference these sources for content but the summary can include your own personal views. So my questions to you,………..should my daughter go against what she believes in and write what this teacher wants to hear? Will she risk getting a lower score if the teacher does not like her viewpoint? Can she expect this ‘in your face’ teaching for the next 3 years?

This is a English class.

 

Put in a letter of complaint to the Collage administration with copies to the head of department and the senior tutor as well as the local education authority

 

I agree, she should immediately schedule an appointment with the Dean and submit to him a written complaint about the professors blatant abuse of her authority. That bitch has no business being paid to teach that crap. Furthermore, you should send a written request to the University demanding a refund of the associated tuition for her failure to teach what is listed in the course description.

If the behavior is as you have stated, report the instructor to the department chair, next the Dean of the College, or if nothing is done, sending a letter to the president of the school always gets immediate action, especially if it is from the parent. However, be prepared to backup your daughter's claims. Instructors have a lot of latitude in the subject material but behaviorally, they must be professional. If you daughter is simply objecting to the political bent of the assignments, you won't get very far. If there is actually unprofessional behavior, and I have to admit, I've only seen it once in a classroom situation by an adjunct, the instructor is terminated.

My guess is that if this woman is making a point of being a Lesbian in an unprofessional way, it is probably because she just came out. Still, it isn't appropriate in a learning environment be it from a straight couple going through a relationship problem or a gay couple. I don't know what your daughter's exposure to gay culture has been to this point in her life, but if this is her first real exposure to it, she may also be hypersensitive to any open talk of homosexuality. I just think that you have to consider how much shelter your daughter has been given in her life and weigh that against the realities of college life. It can be an eye-opening experience and frankly, should be. Good luck.

 

I agree with De Orc. jth's daughter should leave the class as well. And perhaps get others to do so. See, De Orc did said it(unlike you) without pointing out his race.

 

Actually, there are always student affairs representatives and ombudsmen to go through long before this rush to judgment approach. You have obviously already convicted this instructor and sentenced her based on your own prejudices. Never a good idea if you want a good resolution. I know you'll disagree with me but higher education has plenty of ways and resources to deal with situations like these even though they rarely arise. I don't know what they do at the casino but we tend to be much more professional and expect all of our people to act with the same professionalism and respect we would want to be treated with. You've made a lot of assumptions here and have only managed to give bad advice.

 

I gave the same advice that you gave Moen. You advised that the student report the prof to the department chair and then the Dean. I advised going straight to the Dean. You also advised the parent to send a letter to the President of the school. I gave the same advice with the inclusion of content about tuition reiumbursement. How can my advice which is the same as yours be bad and a rush to judgement? Answer that Mr. Professor.

Furthermore, perhaps you should not rush to judgment. My advice was based on personal experience as the exact same scenario occurred in my freshmen year English class. The Dean of my school thought it best that I be placed in class with another instructor since it was a freshman pre-requisite for all students and was taught by more than one professor. So you can call it prejudice, I call it experience.

I would assume that jth believed his daughter's claim 100% otherwise he would not have posted it here. Therefore, there is no risk in proceeding under the assumption that the professor's behavior is unprofessional. My problem with jth is why he would ever ask your advice about anything. I don't even believe that you are professor at an accredited University. None of my college professors would ever waste as much time as you do arguing with the idiots on this forum. Please note that I include my self in the idiot pool. Every active member of this forum is a complete idiot, without exception.

BTW, we are not at work here. The statements made are of a candid nature and it is obvious that any attempt to resolve the situation would have to rise to a level of professionalism not found on this forum. Try not to fall off your high horse buddy!
