The larger Seaport Issue

The Sea Port Issue is a large issue that has been ignored in this nation.
I remember when Clinton against advice from various agencies allowed the Communist Chinese government to take over the Long Beach Naval Weapons Ship Yard in 1997, the only major deep water port that can take large ships on the west coast. It also has not been reported but Communist China has docked their naval ships there when Clinton was president and those ships were nuclear armed. I am not updated on this but I would not be surprised that it is continuing.
Funny how "our" news reporters or people who bashed Bush for the sake of bashing Bush never uncovered it?

I feel an uncomfortable cognitive dissonance in the Force. As if millions of liberals suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

 

As I stated in the other thread...No matter how badly I think Congress handled the UAE issue or how easily they used the media to manipulate and then pacify the American public in an election year , I do not think our sea ports, airports, railways and other similar infrastructure should be run by non-US entities. I think it is foolish and presents unnecessary risks in this day and age. And that goes for an Asian nation, an Arab nation, a European nation or whoever the contract would go to.

and once again you avoid the issue with uglyness.
The point was that our ports, our media, our missle technology, our nuclear technology was being sold out by Clinton while he was president. That our nation is being sold out from underneath us and both the mainstream democrats and mainstream republicans need to get our nation back and since they are on the port issue, it would be nice to see if someone address the issue of communist china having a foothold in the United States.
But perhaps that type of thinking is beyond some who rather throw bombs then look at the issues and push for solutions.
The other point is why has not the same people who slammed Bush on the UAE port issue ignore that military naval ships armed with nuclear weapons have docked in the USA and they were able to for they control that port. Do you think Communist China would let the USA control a port on their shores and dock portions of our fleet there? Of course not. It goes against common sense.

Which leads to the point that StuJoe made clear that we need to take back our nation in so many ways and we need to make that message clear by calling in radio shows, writing your congressman, writing to the editor, talking to your neighbors, etc..I hate to think that the take back America movement would have to wait for a nuclear attack inorder to get jump started. Build that grassroots in your own backyard today.

 

One issue that I feel like I do know something about is transportation. One of the fellows in my wife's graduating class (all 8 of them, and guess who the guest speaker was? Condi Rice) was a guy name Jack Riley. If you Google transportation and terrorism, you will most likely come across his name as the best source of information on the subject. He has said that it isn't a matter of if our transportation systems will be hit, but when. Seaports are the most likely targets for terrorists because of the ease of access and their proximity to large urban areas. He has testified before congress and tried to bring this threat to the attention of the entire country in the last few years. Yet one stupid move by the Bush administration to allow an Arab owned company to run a couple of seaports here in the US did more to bring this vulnerability to the attention of the public than years of Jack talking about the issue. Unfortunately for them, it wasn't the attention they were hoping for but hey, it may have worked out best for everyone in the end. If that isn’t a case of serendipity, I don’t know what is.

 

But Moen is this going to stop with just saying no to the UAE or is our nation going to get its act together and get all of our ports back. I would hope that this is just more then political grandstanding and is a movement to help secure our nation a little bit more.

 

Call me cynical but I think this issue is done and over with both in the media and the Congress as it has already met its objective...which I believe had little or nothing to do with how secure things actually are or should be. 'Mission Accomplished' as they say.

Welcome to Globalization Andy. What you are proposing is akin to isolationism. We definitely aren’t going that way since neither the Democrats nor the Republicans will support it. You can look forward to many other aspects of our country becoming parts of and entwined with countries you never could have imagined in the not too distant future. The Genie of Globalization is out of the bag and isolation isn't an option anymore. I'd say get used to it and if at all possible, profit from it.

 

There is globalization, which has its place even to someone of my philosophy, but then there is selling off your security. But, I agree that neither party will do anything about it. They are in too deep. Heck, we will probably subcontract our police and military by the end of the century. It's not much more ridiculous.

Well I have a friend who is a big Republican (AZ is a Republican state). He asked what me "what would you think if Clinton did that to your daughter (we both have girls). I answered "how would you feel if your daughter got her arms cut off by Reagans goons like the kids in El Salvador". All they could dig up on the guy was a sexual indisgression pretty insignificant compared to Reagan and his ilk.

 

I hope your friend pointed out the fallacy of your reasoning. I think you are comparing Apples to Buicks. Goons can cover a lot of territory as opposed to an act that someone actually and personally did (or acts if you consider the lying which was the meat of the matter). Heck, I think just being a close, personal friend of the Clinton's was a job that could be very dangerous to your health.

The truth is neither of the Parties of the Dans (old or r) have much to be proud of when you get down to things like that.

But basically this thread is a good example of how Americans view politics the way they view football. Nobody really cares what happens to the country. They just want their "team", in this case a political party, to win.

 

I used to think it was only Andy that was fixated with Clinton. The only reason anyone would even bring Clinton up at this stage is because the current president looks so pathetic that they have to divert attention way from him. What Bill Clinton did or didn't do in his personal sex life more than pales by comparison to the issues we are facing today. Anyone bringing up ANYTHING about Bill Clinton isn't facing the real problem we have in the White House which is the CURRENT president.
