Fair enough HM and I apologize to you and anyone else I may have offended. Here's my "light" version of my statement. If you're not required to register with a party in order to vote then I feel it's idiotic. As for being innoculated against responses here I learned that a LONG time ago.
See, I agree with this "light" statement 100%. Why label yourself if you don't have to and if you feel that you can vote for candidates in various parties? The person might not be an idiot, but the action may be perceived as idiotic, even if the person is bright (yes, Jo + partly exposed sheep pen electric fence plug + rain on Boxing Day. One tiny zap was enough . . .). Inoculated against responses? *pffft* But yeah, I try hard not to swing back unless a post is either a personal attack or pretty darn close to it--or unless it's animal rights related and then Katy bar the door. Sorry if I jabbed a little harder than I had to do.
In response to HM If you do not cast a vote (even negating it in some manner) then sorry but you have no right then to decry the winners policy A spoilt ballot paper still counts as a vote against all candidates and if enough folks do it they will get the message
If we had paper ballots, I'd definitely do that, but the powers that be in my area have decreed that we have the computer balloting now. I hate it. I have always voted for someone in the federal races, just so that I can retain my complaining rights--but I am worried this time around. I really don't see anyone that I feel worthy of running the country and as one person I'm powerless to stop one of these people from getting into the highest office.
Can you vote Independent or a write in? When Bush and Kerry were up for President I voted for a guy who's name I don't even remember but I didn't vote for Bush or Kerry.
Do they not give you the option of a postal vote? not everyone is able to get to a voting station. Over here you can request the right to vote by mail they even flirted with on line voting but I think that proved to be too large a headache for them LOL
I'm still too young and not disabled enough for an absentee ballot. Oh, and "Independent" is not a recognized party where I'm from. A friend of mine suggested I register Libertarian--oi. That's not me. I guess I'll have to hold my nose and vote for the best of the worst. With any luck, that won't involve voting Democrat this year.
Sorry but to me that seems takes away the right to vote from many citizens who do not support Reps or Dems in fact it reeks of Communism You need to start a revolution about it
I see where you're coming from, De Orc, but here there are five recognized parties and the Independent party (however it's named these days) didn't jump through the right hoops to make it six. I'm fine registering with the Republican party, even though they don't speak for me any longer, and voting for whatever candidate I choose. I feel less comfortable registering for the Democratic, Green, Libertarian, or Reform parties. A person can register or run unaffiliated with any party and therefore be "independent," but I feel that's throwing away a chance to make an impact before the final candidates are chosen in the two primary parties.
Geez, In other words you have the choice of between a rock and a hard place. And we wonder why this country is screwed up.
Yep, pretty much. At least this year I have a car and don't have to walk to the polling place. LOL I stand corrected!
