The Tyranny of Political Correctness!

Rick got me to thinking of a new subject to 'kick' around, and so here it is:

The declared rational of this tyranny is to prevent people from being offended; to compel everyone to avoid using words or behaviour that may upset homosexuals, women, non-whites, the crippled, the mentally impaired, the fat or the ugly. This reveals not only its absurdity but its inspiration. The set of values that are detested are those held by the previous generation (those who fought the Second World War), which is why the terms niggers, coons, dagos, wogs, poofs, spastics and sheilas, have become heresy, for, in an act of infantile rebellion, their subject have become revered by the new generation. Political Correctness is merely the resentment of spoiled children directed against their parent's values.

Do you have any examples you would care to share?

 

If my wife or children were ever called the first two words you used, there, I would make the speaker the cripple you mentioned ealier in the post. I guess the irony there, is that they can live life from the other side of the fence.

In all seriousness, I have raised my boys to not really care what people have to say in their private lives. Hopefully that sticks. But if it becomes a subject of effecting their potential in life, because some throwback decides it's ok to be bigotted at work or in their professional lives, or in any other way that adversely effects their lives, I hope they take that person to the wall, and see that the action is swiftly and appropriately dealt with.

 

I should be able to drop f-bombs in public & burn the flag if I want to, too. Stupid PC society. There is no "right to not be offended". It's a part of free society - if you want to be free, you have to learn to grit your teeth & bear it sometimes.

 

The political correctness got so bad that if Hitler was in power today, he would have won the war without much of a fight, like he did in france but to a world wide degree, for it would be wrong to speak out and tell it like it is never mind take action against a nazi movement. OPps now someone is going to say I am anti-naxi and should be ashamed of myself.

A couple months ago, I was in a work situation which resulted in a coworker of mine asking: how could you not get mad at him having a family like yours? - something to that effect. My answer was pretty simple: because that guys an idiot. he didn't know, and if he knew, he would feel like a jerk - then I would have to deal with the apologetics and niceties. His intention was not to offend anyone. His intention was to make people laugh with a joke he thought was funny - and he's an idiot.

words are not complete communication. We have reason and we are all able to look behind the words and attempt to see the intention behind them. Some people use that as a shield to protect their ability to be jerks... again, we can all see that, nobody is really fooled.

The way I see it, when terms are used to belittle or objectify others based on race, etc. and the intention is there, that person is breaking the law... both morally and legally. Besides that, only the weak use them - because they are afraid that on equal grounds, that person who is 'nothing but a *****' is actually better than they are, in every sense of the term... so the result is - 'well ignore that... after all, they're nothing but a *****'

 

Right on man, you can sure call them can't you? Everyone is an idiot or a ***** jerk but you and i.

Oh Danny boy, Danny boy...Isn't it great to be a white male! You don't have to deal with discrimination in your face on a daily basis because, well, you're a white male. No one ever makes you feel out of place with racial comments because, well again, you're a white male. How long has it been that white males have been the dominant gender and race in America, oh yeah, ALWAYS? (Or at least since they conducted government sanctioned genocide on the Native American population).

It's difficult to change old habits especially when there isn't any visible benefit for one's self. Dan you are plainly a RACIST and I'm sure that you REALLY got off rattling off your short list of derogatory ethnic slurs in an open forum. Good for you! Have you ever seen a list of the attributes of an arrogant person? Check this out and maybe show your wife. See if she thinks it describes you accurately.

People who score highest on personality tests that measure arrogance are the ones that are least able to see themselves clearly. Arrogant people:

Are controlling and tend to lose emotional control if things don’t go their way.
Act as if no one else can do anything as well as they can.
Are poor listeners and do not take input from others so they don’t get the feedback they need to make good decisions.
Are afraid to look at the contradictions within themselves – strengths and weakness, things they like and don’t like about themselves.
Are afraid to be vulnerable so they must pretend to be their perfect image and better than others.

So feel free to call me all the names you want. I'll just consider the source.

After Moen-and-groan's last post, I would say it proves your contention in the above quote. That makes you right for the second time. Keep it up and I'll start thinking you know what you are talking about.

How about the topic welfare. You could vent your disgust on the poor and minorities at the same time. Wait, wait, how about poor, elderly, black , handicaped, hurricane victims. There's so much there for you to hate, you'd be drooling onto the keyboard.
