Okay, what are your thought's on the war on drugs? Good, bad? Waste of money, or keeping the streets safe? I'd like to hear any and all opinions.
Now here I could quite happily make a case for the Death penalty, target the importers and distributers not so much the junkies, give them treatment. De Orc
Keeping the streets safe? LOL That's a joke. I was in court w/ dad yesterday, and there must have been 100 cases relating to drugs. The county had to split calender due to the number of cases. The problems are all becoming worse.
I agree 100% De Orc. Now the problem with the war on drugs is that the only people who want to win it besides the general public are members of various Federal, State and local police forces. The leftwing doesn't, the established power elite do not, and the media and hollywood sure wouldn't. Now do I think it is a waste of time, no. Do I think it will be won, no. To much money involved. But a good fight must be fought not so much as out of principle but for containment of damage.
I'll chime in now. I believe that the war on drugs is a complete waste of money. By making drugs illegal, especially ones that do not pose serious health risks, which have medicinal purposes, you create a black market, which in turn creates gang violence etc. I don't think drugs should be legal, but I think perhaps some of them should be decriminalized. We spend billions on the war on drugs. The real problem with this is, well they could be giving me those billions of dollars.
I think it is far cheaper for the taxpayers to shoot a few drug lords in Colombia than pay for all the billions in treatments and criminal prosecutions, prison sentences of the users. Think what you could do with the savings.:mouth:
Ok Zaneman I agree with you that an agrument can be made for pot and maybe hash but how to you feel about speed, heroin, acid, crack, and plain old cocaine becoming decriminalized and if so could people do this in public places as long as they don't smoke cigerattees.
Sure, why not! As long as the government can place a tax on the sale of all of it. Remember, dope=good, cigarettes=bad!:high5:
Well, I think any drug that is non-addictive (at least physically) should be decriminalized. If someone got caught driving high on acid or something, then there should be serious penalties, such as 25-45 years in prison, but if they were just minding their own business, I say give them a ticket, take their drugs, and send them on their way.
Drugs = bad. So they should be illegal. Simple as that. But we should go after the foreign suppliers instead of the dopy.(no pun intended) users of these drugs.
Zaneman I understand your point that if someone is doing a drug and hurting no one but themselves isn't that there right but can anyone on acid mind there own business, are they not in an impaired state of mind while tripping hence the phase "tripping". and does not most drugs alter the body's chemistry which causes either mental impairments or created dependence on that drug which in turn makes that person over time a burden to society in so many ways. OldDan, once again you got my point and explained it to those who didn't.
The worst drug has not been mentioned yet. I am referring to meth. No other drug comes close to causing the type of harm that this drug does. All other drug problems are tiny in comparison.
I believe this one qualifies, and you passed over it all togather. Old mountan dew, red eye, white lightning, rot gut, Jack, or any of the other mames it has will rank right up there with the best of them. Will we crack down on this one. Oh no, too many legislators, law inforcement and high ranking officials use it to get any type of legislation passed to control the use and spread of it's use. Right down into grade school any more. Next it will be searching of pre-school toddlers as they arrive on the morning bus.
There is a large amount of legislation against methamphetamine. In states were it is a significant problem, they limit the sales of sudafed, which has pseudophedrine, which meth is synthesized from.
I am not a fan of Rush Limbaugh but to attack him on his drug addiction is not that liberal minded. I guess the left wants to imprison any one who talks out against them no matter what measures are taken. Again very unliberal and more facist. The problem that Rush has is a problem that quite a few Americans have today and that is getting addicted to drugs that were orginally given to them by doctors who knew that those drugs were addictive in the first place. Yes he went for more drugs but who hooked him in the first place in the name of medicine. After all how many Americans feel that the doctor must know best, especially when they are in pain.
