Akerson is a Republican and a grandfather. Along with his wife, Karin, Akerson donated to the presidential campaigns of George W. Bush and Sen. John McCain. The Akersons have three children.

Akerson was named to the GM board last year by the Treasury Department, after it acquired a 61 percent stake in the Detroit automaker.

what does matter to me, is that huge pay packages are ok if the Democrats do it, and only if the Dem's do it. I bet you jumped for joy when you found out he was a Republican.

Democrats constantly wage war at greedy corporations and huge executive pay, but this time you just dismissed it as a side note and then used the R word. Republican !!!

If Haliburton gave an executive who worked les than a year a $ 9,000,000 package, the exec's party would never have been looked into, and they would be screaming about it. But BO's administration did it, so it's side note with a Republican disclaimer

And , about Haliburton even further.....we heard for 8 years about no bid contracts.......BO has done it as well and not a peep. My point again. Party over principles....over and over. It never ends.

The left screamed for years about the Patriot Act.........which in FACT, BO made permanant.....again, not a peep.......

I still don't see the direct connection between the administration and this REPUBLICAN CEO's salary. Perhaps you can spell out the connection more clearly and stop relying on innuendo. Are you trying to say because we the tax payers bailed out GM with TARP money which George Bush signed into law, Barack Obama is responsible for this guy's salary? Like I said, please spell out the connection for me. It's all a little hazy.

 

Fact check time- It was BO who took over GM, not Bush. The US gov't owns 61% of GM so guess who is calling the shots?

I would much rather debate lure color, line depth and boat speed, but this is where we are right now, so lets stick to the facts and actual things said here.

I do not see Moen and Clembo, Danr;s as goofbals. I see them as thinking Americans, thus, I try to project facts. They have to regroup and think deeply.

If , and thats a big if, they wish to be intectually honest in the debate, they will. Thats what I 'm waiting for. I hope for the best.

What bothers me is the stand for a letter gang, those will be cast aside as riff raff, not worth debating. Dont lose hope David. I think TomC is a goner, but Clembo and DanR have shown me true intellectual honesty......now I am trying to save Mr Moen.....he is not worth giving up on yet

The Troubled Asset Relif Program (TARP) money was signed into law to bail out corporations just like GM by George Bush in October 2008. Just because he didn't get to stick around and clean up his own mess doesn't mean he is absolved of appropriating the money for the purpose. It was stated at the time GM received the money that the government would have nothing to do with the day-to-day running of the company. It is more than a stretch to try and link the Obama Administration to this CEO's salary especially while ignoring Bush's role. It's just intellectually dishonest, a poor attempt at finding fault where there is plenty of blame to go around, and yet one more instance of hypercritical conservatism. Now this thread has gone down hill too.

 

OK, then what did Bush have to do with firing Rick Wagoner? Since he had nothing to do with that, I fail to see how he had anything to do with GM there after.

 

Firing Wagoner was a condition of receiving the TARP money I know. I fail to see why this is relevant to the current CEO's salary issue.

You can either complain that we bailed out this failing giant or you can complain about the tax payer having a hand in righting this sinking ship by making decisions that protect our "investment". You are just disingenuous if you want it both ways. I don't care what the current CEO's salary is. I know why both Bush and Obama wanted to save this poorly run corporation and I don't agree that it should have been done but I don't work at a GM plant either. Now that it is done, I'm glad that the "investment" that the tax payers are on the hook for is being managed by the people I elected. There is no right or wrong here. It was either do this and have this bad thing happen or do that and have that bad thing happen. Arguing the details at this point is just an exercise mental masturbation. By all means, enjoy yourselves!

 

It was relevant only in removing Bush from the equation contrary to you trying to attach him to the salary issue.

 

I attached him to the TARP issue not the salary issue. People want to hone in on one aspect of this complicated scenario to try and make a point but like I said, there is plenty of blame to go around.
