The other day I was riding my unicycle in the street. Juggling D size batteries as I tend to do. And some guy in his CAR honks his horn at me, making me lose concentration. Well I chucked a battery right through his windshield. Well he got out of his vehicle and said, ''Whats wrong with you?''. and so I pulled out my Bulldog .44 and really let him have it. when it come to my unicycle, I cut no slack. an I'm not talking no silly Woolworth ''uni.''. This thing cost forty dollars. And believe me you dont want to know what I do to people who bumped into me on a crowded sidewalk.
Today I saw an old guy who almost hit me in the street last weekend because he can't see over the steering wheel of his car. I saw him walking his dog on the bike trail as I was riding my bike. I thought about running him down but decided that I should be nicer than that. So, I said 'Sorry!' as I left a 20mph tire track right down the middle of his mangy Pomeranian.
We have a bunch of wild young men here in this area who like to go 'pole bending' with their pickup truck and a long pole vaulting pole. They drive down the street or highway and when they see a guy on a bike, they stick the pole out of the window of their truck and head for the rider. If they are successful in wiping him off of his bike, they get to paint a image of a bike on their truck door panel. After they reach five (5) they are considered aces and are allowed to wear a white scarf around their necks. The top driver got 9 in one drive, when he met a group of people out on a road race or something. A couple of those when to the hospital as he met them head on and not from the back side. Well ,the kids have to have something to do in these hills, don't they ?
Do to a lack of sheep, we have some bored guys riding around in pick up trucks like that around here too. That is why we have learned to lay down spike strips at all the country and western bars before a big road race.
Sooooooo funny, Mr. craig a. I have to say, though, last night my wife and I were riding, and some guy behind us in a truck honked at us for being in the road. I punched his hood as he drove by and put a dent in it. He didn't even stop. What a wuss.
Maybe the trucker was doing you a favor. When he saw the two of you wiggling down the road on your unicycles, he might have been just trying to alert you to the fact that he was approaching from behind -- for your safety. Based on your response, I see an Easy Rider type of ending to this story someday.
Nah, it was a long, mean honk. Pickup truck, too, not a semi. And he threw a beer can and it hit me in the head and I got beer all over my spandex cycling suit. We were riding tricycles, not unicyles, BTW.
Where the heck do you live? Is it Denver or Boston? I would think Denver would be pretty bike friendly. Boston? Well, it is East Coast so I would not be surprised at anything from there.
I live in downtown Denver. Boston was actually MUCH more bike friendly because people rode to work and things like that a lot more there, and everyone is used to all the narrow roads. People have the perception that Denver is full of hikers and bikers and all that, but honestly, I think people use alternative transportation far less out here than out East. And hey, what's wrong with spandex! I think based on my avatar, it should be pretty obvious I DON'T wear spandex... ...that often.
I guess that is fair enough, as I'm old enough to qualify. Just a friendly reminder! You had better keep that two wheeler and spandex south of the border that is north of you, as up here we don't "honk" when over taking one of you peddle pushers. You might say that gives us an unfair advantage.
I would have suspected Denver would be better than that. I live in a smaller, somewhat rural are in Southern Illinois across the river from St Louis. Seems bike friendly. At least I haven't had any problems. We have a lot of nice bike routes (both trails and along the roads). And, nervous sheep jokes aside, we are fortunately free of drunken, redneck, pickup gangs.
Well, now old hog-leg, it appears that you might be able to survive for a little while longer if you can run fast enough, but up here you are nothing more than fancy Spandex 'road-kill'. like you said:
LOL I'm going to dawn spandex and go cycling in Wyoming. I like to be challenged. If I wasn't approaching 40 and starting to feel the effects of a wild youth, I would try out for the UFC.
UFC? Would that be the Ultimate Fitness Challenge, or maybe it's the United Fellowship of Christ. Either way, good luck in all your efforts to halt aging.
Ultimate Fighting Championship, maybe? Only death halts aging but when I am out riding and I see people in their 50ies and 60ies and some I swear have to be pushing 70 out on their comfort bikes - and I see quite a few around here - it brings a smile to my face because I realize you don't have to get decrepit just because you get old.
