No, the difference is that I've never called for anyone to resign over a sex scandal unless they've broken the law. If you break the law, you should resign. I think once you are convicted, you should be kicked out. Sex scandals don't always involve breaking the law. Vitter was paying prostitutes. Weiner was sending dirty pictures. Both activities are creepy but only one is illegal. I think if an activity is creepy and the constituents are willing to elect the person again, the court of public opinion has had its say. If the creepy activity turns out to be illegal, then another court needs to have its say.

Jack, your facts are waaaaaay out of wack!

The Larry Craig scandal was an incident that began on June 11, 2007, with the arrest of Larry Craig—who at the time was a Senator from Idaho—for lewd conduct in a men's restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Craig later entered a guilty plea to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct on August 8. As a result of the controversy surrounding his arrest, subsequent guilty plea, and pressure from his fellow Republicans, Senator Craig announced his intention to resign from the Senate at a news conference on September 1, which was to become effective on September 30. After failing to withdraw his guilty plea, on October 4, Craig released a statement refusing to resign as senator for Idaho.

    Refused to resign!

In July 2007, Vitter was identified as a client of a prostitution service.[1] He won a second term in the November 2 general election, defeating a Democratic challenge from U.S. Representative Charlie Melancon of Napoleonville, the seat of Assumption Parish. In the Republican primary held on August 28, 2010, Vitter handily defeated former Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Chet D. Traylor of Monroe, formerly from Winnsboro.

    Not the 90's!

Not exactly what you said in your earlier post though, was it? You said you would call for Weiner's resignation when Republicans called for Vitter's but now you are placing degrees and conditions. Either he should resign or he shouldn't, which is it?

If he broke the law, he should resign. If he didn't and his constituents want him to resign, he should resign. How much clearer can that be?

Clearer? Not really. But definitely different. You said you would call for Weiner's resignation once Repubs called for Vitter's. But now you are hedging a bit. Let's say that what Weiner did isn't illegal. Based on what we know (including the lying), what do you personally believe Weiner should do...regardless of what his consituents think because his next re-ecletion is a little ways off.

Is it possible that I was just speaking to two different audiences? I don't feel Republicans have a leg to stand on when they call for Weiner to resign in the first case. In the second case, I am speaking to what I believe as a Democrat to anyone else that might be inclined to believe as I do. These are not mutually exclusive opinions. If you weren't so busy playing "Gotcha", you might realize that.

Since when did asking you to explain your own words constitute playing "gotcha"?

Hey,, moen phd. How is this for both an explanation and a couple examples? But then I guess I am being ignored, Apparently that is a condition of your return. I guess I just want too many facts in stead of your opinions.

A lot of Dems want him to resign as well. Now there's more pictures on the internet.

When this started, some pundit said it was almost inevitable he would resign after a while. He described it as death by a thousand cuts. Every day it is something new and embarrassing that comes up and it really won't end unless he resigns.

I was thinking of the wrong guy....didn't the Repos just oust someone for posting a shirtless torso pic on a dating site or Craigslist or something?.......Thts what I was referring to.

Vitter was IDENTIFIED in 2007 when a Madam tell all surfaced. The prostitution occured in the 90's.

Oh, I'm not too sure about that. I think many Republicans feel as I do that he shouldn't resign just because he's creepy and sleazy. I can't stand the guy's politics and I think he's a loudmouth, but I don't think he should resign just because of this. I don't think he was using government computers and I think the recipients of his pictures were all willing participants. So, unless he did something illegal or it involved abuse of his power, etc., he should stay.

Just look at the reference I posted earlier. Its title is More Democrats Urge Weiner to Resign; Watchdog Sees Double Standard. And that is from ABC, not even Fox. It also references Boehner urging Reps. Mark Souder (R-Ind.) and Chris Lee (R-N.Y.) to resign. Note, they are both Republicans.
